Primary Peritoneal Cancer

(Peritoneal surface carcinoma)

Preferred Diagnostic Procedure:

  • Laparoscopy: Minimally invasive procedure to visually examine the peritoneum and take tissue samples for biopsy.
  • Imaging Tests: Utilization of CT scans, MRI, and PET scans to obtain detailed images and assess the spread of cancer within the abdominal cavity.

Preferred Treatment Procedure:

  • Cytoreductive Surgery: Surgical removal of visible tumors within the peritoneum, often combined with heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) to target remaining cancer cells.
  • Chemotherapy: Systemic chemotherapy to manage and reduce cancer, often used in conjunction with surgery or as a standalone treatment if surgery isn’t feasible.

Thoracic Oncology

Preferred Diagnostic Procedure:

  • Bronchoscopy: A procedure that allows doctors to view the inside of the lungs and air passages, often accompanied by a biopsy to examine tissue samples.
  • Imaging Tests: CT scans, MRI, and PET scans are used to obtain detailed images of the lungs and surrounding structures to detect tumors and assess their spread.
